WNYC Studios and The Takeaway Present “How to Vote in America”

A new weekly podcast series that helps make sense of how elections work in our democracy

Launches today

(New York, NY — February 27, 2020) — Today, WNYC Studios and The Takeaway, are introducing “How to Vote in America,” a new podcast series that demystifies the process of electing an American president.

Hosted by veteran political reporter Amy Walter, each episode explores a single aspect of the election process in a short 5- to 10-minute format, breaking down history, distilling myths and informing voters on how the American election has evolved.

In the debut podcast, available today, Walter looks at the most pivotal moment of every presidential nominating process: Super Tuesday. When did it start? Why is it “super”? And why are more states joining its ranks? Future episodes will explore a range of topics and questions including how delegates are chosen, what exactly are “superdelegates,” and whether or not there are actually rules to the debates.

“Trying to make sense of politics starts with understanding how our process of voting came to be and how and why it works (or doesn’t),” said host Amy Walter. “I’m thrilled to tackle pieces of this process in ‘How to Vote in America’ to bring more clarity and understanding to a complex and at times archaic system.”

Amy Walter is one of the most trusted journalists reporting on politics, respected by politicians and pundits on all sides of the aisle. As the anchor of The Takeaway’s Friday program “Politics with Amy Walter” and the national editor of The Cook Political Report, she looks beyond the breaking news headlines for a deeper understanding of how Washington works, who’s pulling the levers of power, and how it all impacts Americans.

“How to Vote in America” is released weekly, and is available online here and on all other platforms where podcasts are available.
