WNYC’s THE BRIAN LEHRER SHOW LAUNCHES “SPEAK WITH THE SPEAKER” WITH JULIE MENIN

The new monthly segment offers New Yorkers the chance to ask questions and share concerns with the City Council Speaker

Premiering on Wednesday, August 19 at 10am

New York, NY – August 18, 2026  WNYC’s “The Brian Lehrer Show” announced today the premiere of “Speak with the Speaker,” a new interview and call-in series with New York City Council Speaker Julie Menin. The first edition of the series will take place tomorrow, Wednesday August 19 at 10am ET.

“We’re excited that Speaker Menin will be joining our show more regularly, offering New Yorkers insights into the work of the City Council,” said Brian Lehrer. “We’re dedicated to offering listeners an opportunity to both hear from their elected officials in their own words and ask their own questions about the issues that matter most.”

Speaker Menin has been a frequent guest on “The Brian Lehrer Show” throughout her political career, including during her tenure as chairperson of Community Board One in Lower Manhattan, Commissioner of the Mayor’s Office of Media and Entertainment, and as a member of the City Council.

“Speak with the Speaker” will air once a month. The segments remain available on demand on wnyc.org and as a podcast.

To submit a question for “Speak with the Speaker,” listeners can call or text questions to 212-433-WNYC (9692) during the broadcast.

“The Brian Lehrer Show” is WNYC’s Peabody Award-winning weekday public affairs call-in show. The show features interviews with newsmakers, journalists, and local, state, and national elected officials, allowing New Yorkers to connect directly with their representatives and ask the questions on issues that impact their lives. “The Brian Lehrer Show” airs weekdays at 10am ET on WNYC 93.9 FM, AM 820 and online at wnyc.org.

“Speak with the Speaker” joins the program’s extensive roster of regular appearances from elected officials from New York and New Jersey. “The Brian Lehrer Show” often welcomes US Senators and state leadership and hosts Mayor Zohran Mamdani each quarter for “Ask The Mayor.” Additionally, WNYC hosts regular conversations with NJ Governor Mikie Sherrill on “Ask The Governor,” hosted by Michael Hill.
